Skatepark Pro Scooter vs Street Pro Scooter Key Differences 0

Here I’ll show you the difference between a stunt scooter for skatepark riding and one for street riding.

And no, a street scooter is not the same as a classic kick scooter!

What’s the difference between a Stunt Park Scooter and a Stunt Street Scooter?

There are several differences.

1. Size of the stunt scooter.

  • A street scooter is taller than a park scooter.
  • When choosing, check the total height – measured from the ground to the top of the bars. A park scooter should be around hip height. A street scooter bar should be somewhere between your hips and your belly button or at belly button level.

2. Deck design.

  • A street deck is longer, bigger, wider, and has square edges.
  • A park deck is smaller, narrower, with angled edges.
  • In the skatepark, speed, maneuverability, and precision matter, so the deck has to be compact.
  • On the street, distances between obstacles can be larger, so a bigger deck works better for longer grinds and rides.
  • A street scooter has more grinding surface and is more durable.
  • A park scooter deck needs better grip for stability during jumps and tricks.
  • A street scooter deck should absorb shocks better when riding on different street surfaces.

3. Weight of the scooter.

  • Park scooters are much lighter than street scooters due to their build and trick style.
  • A street deck needs to be more stable, so it’s heavier.
  • A park deck goes airborne a lot, so it must be smaller and lighter to stay out of your way.

4. Scooter handlebars.

  • Street bars are wide, solid, and usually in the T-shape – hence the name T-Bar. That’s why street scooters are often called “straight bar scooters.”
  • Park bars are lighter and usually Y-shaped. Of course, there are exceptions, like Blunt KOS S7, Triad Delinquent, or Aztek Fountain, where even street scooters can have Y-bars.

5. Scooter wheels.

Park scooters usually use 100–110 mm wheels, harder for speed and precision. Street scooters often come with 110–120 mm wheels. Choosing wheels is personal preference – test different ones if you can. Still, pros often use hard wheels in the skatepark and softer ones for street riding. More about scooter wheels you’ll find here.

In summary…

Main features of a park scooter

A park scooter is lightweight, and depending on your level, the lighter the better. It must match your height. The deck is small and compact. Most park scooter parts should be aluminum, with budget models using chromoly steel. The whole setup has to be agile and responsive, following your moves with precision.

Did you know the difference between riding in a skatepark and riding in the street?

In the skatepark, you have ramps and obstacles built for tricks. Moves are polished and precise, with shorter distances between obstacles. On the street, anything goes – ledges, benches, stairs, rails, curbs. Street tricks are rougher, tougher, and harder on the scooter.

You can ride a stunt scooter practically anywhere – city spots, skateparks, or even dirt jumps. Overall, stunt scooters are divided into park scooters, street scooters, and universal stunt scooters.

What are the benefits of riding a stunt scooter?

It’s fun, but also a sport that improves your fitness, focus, balance, and coordination. Riding a scooter also teaches patience, how to handle failure, resilience to pain, and quick reflexes.
