FAQ – Scooter Headsets

What’s the difference between integrated and non-integrated headsets?

Integrated headsets fit decks with built-in bearing cups, just drop the bearings in. Non-integrated headsets require separate cups to be pressed into the deck. Check your deck before ordering to match the right type.

Will this headset fit my fork and compression system?

Most modern headsets work with SCS, HIC, IHC and ICS as long as you use a threadless fork and the correct crown race. Always check the fork’s steerer length and diameter for compatibility.

How often should I replace headset bearings?

For daily riders, inspect bearings every few months. Replace them when you feel roughness, hear grinding, or notice play that tightening can’t fix. Sealed bearings usually last longer than loose-ball styles.

Why is my headset making noise or feeling loose?

Most rattles come from bearings that need cleaning or a headset that isn’t pre-loaded enough. Re-grease the bearings and tighten the compression bolt until the play disappears but the bar spins freely.

Can I install a headset without a bearing press?

Integrated headsets drop in by hand. Non-integrated cups need to be pressed in squarely, ideally with a headset press. A DIY method is possible but be careful not to damage the deck.

Do I need the supplied crown race and dust cap?

Yes. The crown race lets the bearing sit correctly on the fork and the dust cap keeps dirt and moisture out, extending bearing life and keeping your headset smooth.
