These are not regular Old Skool shoes. The Skate version has been rebuilt for actual skateboarding.
You still get the classic Vans look, but inside there is a stronger build, better grip and more control on the board.
Why choose the Skate version
- more durability against griptape wear
- better grip for stronger board control
- improved impact protection on landings
- more stable fit while skating
You feel the difference during tricks, landings and longer sessions.
What makes this model better for skating
- DURACAP™ reinforces high-wear areas and extends shoe life
- SickStick™ gives stronger grip on the board
- PopCush™ improves comfort and impact cushioning
- molded heel counter helps keep the foot stable
- internal tongue straps improve fit and reduce movement
What are Vans Skate Old Skool good for
- street skateboarding
- skatepark sessions
- daily wear
- tricks that need strong grip and control
This is a solid choice if you want one shoe for skating and everyday use, but with better durability than the standard version.
How to choose the right Vans size and avoid returns
- measure your foot in the evening, when it is slightly larger
- place your foot on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall
- mark the longest toe
- measure the distance from the wall to the mark in cm
- add around 0.5 cm of comfort space
- compare your result with the Vans size chart below
If you are between sizes, choose the larger one. A shoe that is too small will press on your toes and will not stretch enough to become properly comfortable.
The shoe should hold your heel securely, but your toes should still have a little space. That gives better comfort and better control while riding.

Use and wear
Skate shoes naturally wear down when they come into contact with griptape.
Regular skating affects the look and lifespan of the shoe. That is normal for shoes used for skateboarding.
