It is the place where the arms of the crankset connect, and thanks to the bottom bracket you can turn the pedals smoothly.
The bottom bracket consists of bearings and cups that are either threaded or pressed into the bottom bracket shell.
The bottom bracket shell is the part of the bike frame where the seat tube, down tube and chainstays meet. In BMX it has different standards, most often Mid BB, but you will also find Spanish, Euro and American shells in specific frames.
Because the shell and bearings are under constant stress, the parts used in the bottom bracket must be strong, durable and well protected from dirt and moisture.

The bottom bracket connects the crank arms and allows the pedals to rotate freely. It is a key part of the BMX bike drivetrain.
The most common types are Mid, Spanish, Euro and American bottom brackets. They differ in shell diameter, installation method and weight.
Measure the diameter of your frame bottom bracket shell or check your bike specifications. The shell type, Mid, Spanish, Euro or American, determines compatibility.
No. You must match the bottom bracket to the crank spindle diameter, usually 19 mm, 22 mm or sometimes 24 mm, and to the shell type of your frame.
There is no fixed schedule. If you notice play in the cranks, hear creaking noises or feel extra resistance when pedalling, it is time for servicing or replacement.
Yes, if you have the right tools. You will need a crank puller, Allen keys and for press fit bottom brackets a bearing press. If you are inexperienced, it is best to visit a bike shop.
