The safest way is to match the key measurements and standards. Check wheel size, hub spacing, axle type, clamp diameter for the handlebar, seatpost and seat system, as well as bottom bracket and headset type. Good BMX part descriptions list these details so you can compare them with your bike.
Most riders start with parts they feel the most while riding: tires, handlebars, grips, pedals and the seat. Stronger wheels and a better crankset are common upgrades for heavier street or park riding. Choose parts that match your riding style instead of upgrading everything at once.
