Select an axle long enough to pass through the fork or deck, the wheel and into the threaded section inside the peg. The axle does not run the full length of the peg, it only needs to reach the internal thread where the nut tightens. Always replace the stock axle with the longer one supplied in the peg set and use spacers if needed so the wheel spins freely.

Remove the original axle, slide the peg onto the longer replacement axle from the set, and pass the axle through the wheel bearings and fork or deck. The axle threads only into the inner threaded section of the peg, not through its full length, and is secured with the nut there. Spacers are essential to maintain the correct gap and let the wheel spin freely after tightening.
Replace pegs when they bend, crack or wear so much that they no longer slide smoothly or begin to interfere with wheel movement.
