An SCS clamp is part of the Standard Compression System. It holds the handlebar and also compresses the headset and fork, creating a stiff, play-free connection that stays tight during big drops and heavy tricks.
No. SCS bars should have no slit. The clamp compresses the bar without one, giving maximum strength. If your bar has a slit, it must be covered with a shim or adapter before using SCS.
Match the clamp to your handlebar. Standard bars are 31.8 mm, oversized bars are 34.9 mm. Many 34.9 mm clamps include a shim so you can also run a 31.8 mm bar.
Four bolts are standard. They give even pressure and keep the handlebar firmly in place for hard street riding and heavy impacts.
Most high-end SCS clamps are made from 6061-T6 aluminum. It is light, strong and resists bending or cracking even under heavy street use.
Use a threadless fork and an integrated or semi-integrated headset. Insert the compression bolt through the SCS top cap into the threaded insert in the fork’s steerer. Tighten until the headset spins smoothly with no play, then evenly tighten the four clamp bolts in a cross pattern.
Check bolt torque regularly, especially after heavy sessions. Use a small amount of medium-strength thread-locker if bolts tend to back out. Wipe away dirt and moisture to prevent corrosion.
