IHC (Internal Hidden Compression) is a lightweight version of HIC. Part of the hardware sits inside the fork’s steerer tube, which makes the setup lighter and easier to maintain while still keeping the scooter tight and dialed.
IHC works with standard scooter handlebars with an inner diameter of about 28 mm and a slit. These are usually 31.8 mm outer diameter aluminum bars. Steel bars will also fit if they have the same internal size and a slit.
Not for standard 31.8 mm bars. A shim is only needed if you want to run oversized bars, and those bars still need a slit to work with IHC.
Check the compression bolt every few sessions. If you feel bar play or hear rattling, lightly tighten the bolt with a metric Allen key recommended by your fork manufacturer.
Yes, but you’ll need an IHC-specific fork and the correct headset top cap. Your existing bars must have a 28 mm internal diameter and a slit. Oversized or thick-walled steel bars won’t work without swapping to a standard size.
A standard metric Allen/hex key (typically 5 mm) is all you need to set the compression bolt and clamp. A little grease on the headset bearings can help with smooth turning.
For most riders yes. IHC is lighter than SCS, so heavy street riders who do big drops sometimes prefer SCS for maximum clamping power, but a properly installed IHC setup is strong enough for everyday park and moderate street tricks.
