You need a single speed chain, usually 1/8 inch. Both standard and half link versions work for freestyle. Do not use multi speed chains because they are narrower and not designed for BMX tricks.
A half link chain lets you adjust wheel position more precisely which helps when tensioning the chain. It is usually a bit heavier. A standard chain is lighter and simpler but does not offer the same fine adjustment.
