Look for sharp or hooked teeth, bent or missing teeth, chain slipping, unusual noises or extra resistance while pedalling. These are clear signs of wear.
Check it every few months and more often if you ride street or skatepark regularly, or after heavy impacts.
It is best to replace both at the same time. A worn chain can quickly damage a new sprocket.
Smaller sizes like 25 to 28T give faster acceleration and better control. Sizes 30 to 33T offer a more balanced feel and smoother speed.
